Eleven Harriers were among the thirty runners in this years’ Llanfair TH Mountain Race, a particularly difficult 10k road race. First Harrier home, in third position overall behind the Colwyn Bay duo of Russ Godwin and Billy Hunter, was Keith Elliott with a superb time of 42mins 35secs. Almost exactly a minute further back was Ed Reid, a former winner of the race, finishing in fourth position in a time of 43mins 37secs. Haydn Jones, one of the Harriers who regularly trains on the course, took several minutes off his best for the course, with a time of 46mins 8secs, for 8th position overall. Vernon Pownall also mastered the course with an excellent time of 46mins 51secs for 10th position. Paul Thomas finished 13th overall in a very good time of 49mins 21secs. First Lady home was Vicky Ronald of Colwyn Bay AC in an outstanding time of 49mins 55secs, leading the women home not for the first time. Mark Mayers just missed out on the 50 minute mark, with a superb 50mins 7secs for 15th position, with Peter Hardy just one position further back in a time of 50mins 30secs. Andy Goodson also ran extremely well finishing in 51mins 29secs for 18th position while Jeni Richards was the first Female Harrier home, and third Female to finish, in a superb time of 52mins 16secs (19th overall), with Sian Hall fourth female finisher in 54mins 58secs (24th overall). Just ahead of Sian was Rob Spotswood, finishing in 54mins 22secs for 23rd position overall.

Please note this race is in its 76th year and was traditionally simply a race across the mountain, with a prize only for the first person home, whether male or female. In view of the much larger entry this year and the fact that the race now holds a Welsh Athletics Permit

next year there will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Male and 1st, 2nd and 3rd Female and a memento for all finishers.

Llanfair TH Mountain Race ~ 2008

The "75th Anniversary" Annual Mountain race took place on Saturday in very hot conditions. For the first time for many years the race was permitted meaning that runners could run representing their club. Unfortunately only one Harrier ran this year, Steve Ward, finishing in 1hr 17mins 55secs. The race was won by unattached runner Justin Everley with Russ Godwin of Colwyn Bay AC second. First Lady was Vicky Ronald also of Colwyn Bay AC, while first "local" home was Owen Marshall and first "local" lady was Olivia McHugh.

Llanfair TH Mountain Race ~ 28/7/2007

Four Harriers took part in the Llanfair TH Mountain run this year, a race of just over 10k, with Sean McCormack winning the race for the third time in four years, in a fantastic time of 38mins 37secs, just one second slower than two years ago, but over an extended course. Steven McCormack, was third overall in a very good time of 40mins 42secs, a personal best for the course by several minutes and just forty seconds off the second placed runner, Gary Rees Williams of Menai Track and Field. Russ Godwin of Colwyn Bay AC was fourth in a fine time of 42mins 20secs, with Abergele’s Haydn Jones running a superb race in preparation for the upcoming Race the Train in Tywyn, finishing in 48mins 23secs. Carol Willgoose, Abergele’s fourth runner on the day, was first lady home in a fantastic time for this very difficult course, just behind Haydn in 48mins 41secs, with Vicky Ronald of Colwyn Bay AC second lady home, in 51mins 28secs. Steven McCormack, not content with third position in the Mountain Run, then went on soon afterwards to win the 18 years and under 100m race, on the sports field.

Three Abergele Harriers were among the small field that competed in the Llanfair TH Mountain Race, a 10k road race across the mountain in Llanfair that is always very keenly contested by the Harriers. For the second year in succession the race was won by Sean McCormack, this year in a personal best time for the course of 38mins 36secs. McCormack was pushed very hard in the first half of the race by both Steven Robinson (an ex-Harrier now running with the RAF) and Ed Reid (winner two years ago), but pulled away from them both over the mountain. Robinson did get the better of Reid in the long run-in, the pair finishing in 40mins 17secs and 40mins 36secs respectively. Craig Jones, representing the North Wales Police, was forth, with another Harrier, Chris Arnold in 5th in an excellent time of 47mins 37secs. Other local finishers included Wyn Merion (52.40) and AJ Robshaw (56.27), both of Abergele Rugby Club.
